# Spelling

> Find spelling and grammar mistakes in captions, titles, and motion graphics without overwriting your edit.

Spelling reads the text in your active sequence, detects its language, and lists spelling or grammar corrections with their timecodes.

It checks captions, native titles, and editable text inside motion graphics. Corrections remain suggestions: the tool never overwrites your project text.

## Quick Start

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the sequence to check">
    Make the sequence active. The project is saved before its text is read.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add context (optional)">
    List names, brands, places, products, or writing rules that must be respected.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Run the check">
    Click **Check spelling**. The language is detected automatically.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review each correction">
    Compare the original and suggested text, then click **Go to & copy** to move to the item and copy the correction.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Apply manually">
    Paste or type the correction in your editing software, then mark the suggestion as validated.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Use the context field

The context field prevents intentional words from being treated as mistakes and tells the checker which writing style to follow.

Useful context includes:

* *“Premiere Copilot, AutoZoom, and Kwerty are product names.”*
* *“Keep English technical terms in this French video.”*
* *“Use formal language and inclusive writing.”*
* *“Do not change capitalization in brand names.”*

<Tip>
  Add proper nouns before the first check. This removes more false positives than reviewing them one by one afterward.
</Tip>

## Review controls

Each correction contains its timecode, text type, original text, suggested replacement, and an explanation when useful.

| Action            | What it does                                                    |
| ----------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Click the row** | Moves the playhead to the corresponding text. |
| **Go to & copy** | Moves to the item and copies the corrected text. |
| **Validate** | Marks the suggestion as reviewed without changing the timeline. |
| **Copy** | Copies all corrections to the clipboard. |
| **Reset** | Clears the current result list. |

<Note>
  Because corrections are applied manually, you can keep the exact typography, animation, and formatting of every title.
</Note>

## Common pitfalls

<Warning>
  * **Text stored as a flattened image or video** cannot be read.
  * **Protected names missing from Context** may be suggested as corrections.
  * **Validate does not edit the text**; it only tracks your review progress.
  * **Changing the sequence after the check** can make displayed timecodes outdated.
</Warning>

<Tip>
  Review names and numbers first, then punctuation, then stylistic grammar suggestions. This order catches the most visible mistakes quickly.
